Introducing the 8 Week BCycle Training Program

November 19, 2019 By Britney

This is what you’ve been waiting for, Kelowna!

Whether your just want to feel more comfortable and confident in spin class, or you’re training for a triathlon or Gran Fondo, the BCycle 8 Week Training Program is the perfect way to improve your cycling game, no matter what your current fitness level is.

The BCycle Training Program is a series of 8 spin classes for all fitness levels and is designed to accelerate your cycling ability and improve your overall performance on a bike; whether that’s indoors or outdoors.

In this 8 week registered program, each class will include a warm-up, the workout and a cool down.  The workout portion is executed in intervals that follow a progressive format and periodized structure.  The intervals are designed to help develop stronger cycling in specific zones as well as to help improve technique.  The instructor doesn’t ride for this class, her job is solely to be on the floor coaching you each and every step of the way!

The 8 week program runs on Wednesdays at 5:00PM on the following dates:
January 8, 15, 22,29
February 5, 19, 26
March 4

The instructor for this exciting cycling program is Robin Wallouch.

The class breakdown is as follows:

Class 1 (January 8th, 2020): This workout is designed to find your Functional Threshold Power (FTP) which is commonly defined as the highest average power you can sustain for one hour, measured on the bike in watts.  FTP will be used to determine your training zones for all sessions going forward.  Our first class will be a 12 minute warm-up and then a 5 minute all out effort which will serve as your basis for what you will do later in the 20 minute all out effort.

Class 2 (January 15th, 2020) :  This session will focus on hard, short efforts followed by settling back into a constant effort.

Class 3 (January 22nd, 2020): Will focus on anaerobic bursts, followed by sweet spot training.  “Sweet spot” refers to an intensity of training that is hard enough to elicit substantial physiological benefits, but not so hard as to be unsustainable.  It’s 85-95% of your average threshold power.

Class 4 (January 29rd, 2020): Will focus on steady building from 75% -115% of your FTP.

Class 5 (February 5th, 2020): Will focus on 30 second efforts with short recoveries to boost your VO2 power (just love your FTP).

Class 6 (February 19th, 2020):  The super peaks pyramid will focus on short intensity in the anaerobic capacity zone.

Class 7 (February 26th, 2020):  Will focus on sprints. This session is designed to simulate the demands of a road race, in which you are sprinting to get away from a group.

Class 8 (March 4th, 2020): This session will be Time Trials. It will start with a 12 minute warm-up and then a 5 minute all out effort which will serve as your basis for what you will do in your 20 minute all out effort.  This class will allow you to see how much you’ve improved from the first session.

The program cost is $240 per person and there are limited spots available so register as soon as you can to ensure your place in this exciting program.

Introducing the BCycle 6 Week Training Program

September 19, 2019 By Britney

The BCycle Training Program is a spin class for all fitness levels and is designed to accelerate your cycling ability and help you achieve your goals; whether it’s to improve on a Gran Fondo, tackle a charity ride, ride with more experience or simply increase your personal fitness level and cycle knowledge.

In this 6 week registered program, each class will include a warm-up, the workout and a cool down.  The workout portion is executed in intervals that follow a progressive format and periodized structure.  The intervals are designed to help develop stronger cycling in specific zones as well as to help improve technique.  Robin doesn’t ride for this class, her job is solely to be on the floor coaching you each and every step of the way!

The 6 week program runs on Wednesdays at 5:00PM from September 11, 2019 – October 16, 2019 with the fabulous Robin Wallouch.

The breakdown of each class is as follows:

Session 1 (September 11): This workout is designed to find your FTP (Functional Threshold Power) which is commonly defined as the highest average power you can sustain for one hour, measured in watts.  FTP will be used to determine your training zones for all of our sessions going forward and will allow you to measure your improvements over the course of 6 weeks. Our first class will be a 12 minute warm-up and then a 5 minute all out effort which will serve as you bases for what you will do in the 20 minute all out effort.

Session 2 (September 18):  This session will focus on hard short efforts followed by settling back into a constant effort.

Session 3 (September 25): Will focus on anaerobic bursts, followed by sweet spot training.  Sweet spot refers to an intensity of training that is hard enough to elicit substantial physiological benefits, but not so hard that as to be unsustainable.  It’s 85-95% of your average threshold power.

Session 4 (October 2): Will focus on steady building from 75% -115% of your FTP.

Session 5 (October 9): Will focus on 30 second efforts with short recoveries to boost your VO2 power (just love your FTP)

Session 6 (October 16) :  The super peaks pyramid will focus on short intensity in the anaerobic capacity zone.  This will most likely be the toughest of the 6 sessions.

The program cost is $180 per person and there are limited spots available so register as soon as you can to ensure your place in this exciting program.

Why You Need Spin Class AND a Personal Trainer

August 10, 2019 By Britney

“If you always do what you‘ve always done, you‘ll always get what you‘ve always got.” ― Henry Ford.

It’s really quite simple; if you are trying to change your weight, shape, agility, strength, or body fat %,  and what you’re currently doing isn’t working (even if it worked before), you need to make changes, and we’re guessing if you knew what those changes were you would already be doing them…so it is time for you to try working with one of our amazing personal trainers and learn what you need to know to reach your goals, prevent injury and stay motivated and accountable.

Did you know that a personal trainer is a great addition to your group fitness classes too? You bet they are! The spin classes at B are an amazing workout, but you don’t need someone holding your hand while your sweat out all your sins on the bike, do that in dark, with like minded members and THEN let us hold your hand as we address form, injury prevention, diet and goals privately while we work on the strength you need.

A personal trainer is so important for so many reasons, but here are the top 10 signs you’re ready for a personal trainer and it’s time you tried private personal training sessions:

  1. You’re ready to see results
  2. You don’t even know where to start
  3. You are bored with your “workouts”
  4. You are ready to be challenged to become a better version of yourself
  5. You’re ready for the knowledge you need to workout on your own when you want
  6. You need to be motivated, and held accountable
  7. You’re working through an injury to rehab
  8. You have a specific event, tournament, or sport final coming up
  9. You want hands on guidance to make sure you’re doing what is right for YOUR body – those Instagram ‘how to’ videos just aren’t cutting it.
  10. You don’t do well in groups at the gym. Privacy please.

If you can relate to any of these signs, then it’s time you came into B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio (maybe even hop in on that killer spin class you’ve been scared to try) and talked with one of our personal trainers about getting started – and take advantage of a discounted rate of $70/session when you purchase ten sessions.

Why You Should Try Taking A Spin Class

January 18, 2019 By Britney

We’re all looking to better ourselves in one way or another. Oftentimes we are trying to improve our health by committing to a regular workout routine; we join a gym, download an app, or sign up for some classes at the local spin or yoga studio. The truth is, a lot of people aren’t sure what the best fitness option for them is, and find themselves plateauing or even worse, giving up completely. We’re here to tell you that’s okay! You don’t have to love every form of exercise that Kelowna has to offer. What we do want you to do however, is give them a try! You may hate the idea of attending a spin class, bootcamp or lifting weights, but after a few classes you might find yourself actually enjoying the workout, and loving the results – but if you don’t try, you’ll never know!

We might be biased, but we want to tell you why we think spin is such a great workout for everybody, and encourage you to try a class or two to see if it’s something that will work for you!

  1. You Are Not Alone.
At B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio, we have community of people all working towards their unique goal, and all of us are doing it together. We ride together, we sweat together, we grow together. Sit in the back, keep to yourself if you want, but the sense of community you’ll belong to will always be there.
  2. It’s Quick & Convenient.
You might need to ride for hours outside to get a good workout in, but with our Johnny G Spirit Bikes and motivating instructors, our 45 minute spin classes will fly by. The music is loud, the lights are low, the instructors are full of motivation, and the only thing you need to do, is move your legs and adjust the tension and pace when you’re told. No planning, no prep, no thinking – just get on, and ride. We handle the rest.
  3. It’s Not Just Cardio.
We have a lot of people (*cough*men*cough*) that avoid spin classes because they don’t want to attend a cardio class. While you certainly improve your cardiovascular health, and burn a ton of calories, you are also putting in a LOT of work in building those leg, calf, and core muscles. If you think it’s just a cardio class, just wait and see how sore your legs are after a good class; you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
  4. It’s A Great Low Impact Activity.
Knee issues are so common today that a lot of people who were once very active and athletic find themselves unable to participate in their normal activities without pain. Another reason to come in for a spin class! Your knees, hips and ankles don’t take the usual impact they would in a lot of other activities. Your joints are kept in check throughout the class and you can (literally) walk away without pain. To top it off, if you are coming back from an injury, spin is one of the best ways to build back strength and muscle without putting too much pressure on the injury.
  5. It’s Fun!
Again, we might be biased, but if you haven’t been to one of our classes then you don’t know, it is so much fun. With the music blaring, your body moving, the lights changing and the instructor calling out drills and motivation, it’s not hard to forget that you’re in an intensive workout class. Your sweat may remind you, but we promise you’ll leave with a smile!

Kelowna’s Newest Spin Studio Offers Six Different Class Types

December 19, 2018 By Britney

When it comes to working out in Kelowna, we know you have a lot of options; there are spin studios, bootcamp facilities, fitness classes at the gym, and at home training programs, so what’s a fitness goer to do? Well, at B, we have taken the “work” out of planning your workout. We offer a wide variety of spin and strength training classes that will hit every muscle in your body, every day. With one membership you can improve your cardio, decrease your fat, and build lean muscle, and we almost forgot to mention, you’ll have fun while you’re doing it! We don’t believe fitness is “one size fits all” so we offer a variety of classes to ensure there is something for everyone.

Here’s a breakdown of the six fitness classes we are offering at our new studio in the lower mission:

RIDE: Our signature class. This isn’t your average “spin class.” We ride to the music, we turn down the lights, and you experience 45 minutes of high intensity bliss, drills, sprints, and a ride that will leave you with a rush of endorphins that will take you through the day.

Classic Ride: Love the ride, but not all the hype? Think of this classic ride as more of a road ride that focuses more on technique, drills and getting you moving, while providing a little bit more recovery time. It’s brighter, it’s (a little bit) quieter but it’s still one hell of a ride.

Rise N’ Ride: Wake up in the morning feelin’ like P-Diddy – there’s no better way to start your day than this high-energy class packed full of intervals, hills, races, and rhythm riding to the latest and greatest beats. This class will spike your heart rate, get your muscles fired up, your metabolism revving and make sure you start your day with a smile! We promise it’s better than brushing your teeth with a bottle of jack. Extra motivation included, because, mornings.

Lunch RIDE – The slightly less excessive sister of our standard RIDE class. Five minutes shorter, at noon, so you can get your sweat on and sneak in a lunch before you get back to the grind.

Bootcamp – This class has got it all. Muscle sculpting exercises designed to get every muscle firing, executed in a H.I.I.T. style class that keeps your heart rate up, and your body firing on all cylinders.

Straight Strength – Skip the cardio. This class is dedicated to building strength, toning the body and developing muscle in all the right areas. No cardio required.
