A Strength Training Program Designed For Seniors In Kelowna

April 8, 2019 By Britney

A Strength Training Program Designed For Seniors In Kelowna
At B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio we work with people of all ages and fitness levels to help improve their health and their lives through an exercise program that works for them. While many of our classes are a High Intensity Interval Training style, we will be launching a “Silver Strength” training program in the summer for those 60+ that want to keep active, improve their stability, balance, flexibility, muscle tone and bone density at a pace and style that better suits them than large fitness classes designed for all ages.
The Silver Strength classes will be designed for those with osteoporosis and other age related limitations or issues.
With enough interest, we are looking to launch these 45 minute classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11AM.
As we age, it’s more important than ever to keep active. As our bodies get tired and fatigued there are things we can do to help maintain both muscle strength and bone density. Exercise and weight-bearing exercises are also a vital component for treating and preventing osteoporosis. A recent article published by the NIH Osteoporosis and Related Bone Diseases National Resource Center says

“Like muscle, bone is living tissue that responds to exercise by becoming stronger. Young women and men who exercise regularly generally achieve greater peak bone mass (maximum bone density and strength) than those who do not. For most people, bone mass peaks during the third decade of life. After that time, we can begin to lose bone. Women and men older than age 20 can help prevent bone loss with regular exercise. Exercising can also help us maintain muscle strength, coordination, and balance, which in turn helps to prevent falls and related fractures. This is especially important for older adults and people who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis.”
