Studio Closure Details

October 20, 2021 By Britney

To our amazing B Family,

As we approach the end of another crazy year I want to take a minute to thank you for your unwavering support; for continuing to sweat with us amidst the chaos, for showing up when you felt like staying in bed, for your kind words and air hugs with each lockdown, and for your overall support throughout this pandemic.

It is with conflicting emotions that I now share with you I have decided to permanently close B’s doors.

B was built to be an inclusive place for all, a home away from home where everyone was welcome and everyone felt like they belonged to the B Family, but over the past 18 months this has been taken away from us.  We have danced the dance, jumped through the hoops, and pivoted more than we thought possible, but truth be told it’s just not fun anymore. The safe space we created no longer feels like our own. While there may be a small glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel we are not naïve to think things will return to normal anytime soon. After three amazing years the lease for the space is coming to an end so I have made the difficult decision that now is the best time to walk away.

I am forever grateful for the support from each and every one of you and please know that not a single smile has gone unnoticed.

We will continue to run classes as we are permitted to do so until November 27th.

What this means for your membership:

All memberships that are currently on pause will be cancelled immediately unless otherwise notified.

Punch Passes:  Must be used prior to November 27th.
You can now share any remaining punch passes with friends or family to help you use them.
No refunds will be offered.
Unlimited memberships:  After October 27th, all auto-renewing unlimited memberships will be set to expire at your renewal date. If you choose to continue running your unlimited membership please let us know as soon as possible so we can ensure you have uninterrupted access.  For example, if your pass renews on November 4th, you may wish to keep it running to get unlimited access for the month of November.

Personal Training:  Personal training sessions can be used before November 27th; Britney will continue to offer private personal training or small group training from home or virtually; please send an email if you’re interested in this.

Additionally, all Shimano spin shoes are for sale at $50/pair.

Again, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for riding alongside us on this amazing journey, you have inspired us, motivated us, and made our lives better over the last three years.

Remember, “If you want to be happy, just be.”

With love,

Britney

Open Gym Time at B!

April 23, 2021 By Britney

Recent updates from our public health officials state we are still not allowed to offer group fitness classes at this time.  For this reason, we have decided to temporarily incorporate “open gym” time into the studio schedule for now.

What Does “Open Gym” Mean?

You will simply book a “spot” in the main room (as you would if you were signing up for a class) and then you will have access to the equipment in the room; free weights, barbells, exercise balls, mats and a spin bike! You can come in anytime you like within the 45 minute booking window and do your own workout.

This is how it all works:

a. this is not a guided class

b. there is no instructor

c. you will have access to your one spot in the main room; no access to the equipment on the east side of the studio (where the treadmill, squat rack etc. are located – this room is off limits)

d. Booking windows are 45 minutes. If you book the 9:00AM time slot, you can show up anytime you like, but you must leave by 9:45AM

e. Music will be playing at a lower volume, we recommend bringing headphones

f. You must wear your mask the entire time you’re in the studio, as per the provincial health order

g. All covid protocols and social distancing measures are in place; please visit our blog here for additional information

h. Changerooms and showers are still closed at this time

i. When you are done, you will thoroughly clean all of your equipment and return it to where you got it

j. We will still require at least 3 people in each booking to run the time slot

k. You must pre-register before class start time to attend

All unlimited memberships will have access to these bookings and a new drop-in rate of $15 is available to use when booking the “Open Gym” on a punch pass.

Have questions? Let us know!

Takin’ Classes Outside

April 22, 2021 By Britney

We hear you, pushing yourself at home with online workouts isn’t the same as the real deal, in fact it’s not even close! We just couldn’t wait any longer for indoor group fitness to start back up again so we’re excited to launch our outdoor group fitness classes.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Classes will be held right outside B on the patio
  • We will be offering full body classes. The decision will be yours to take on the cardio components to make it a bootcamp or stick with straight strength exercises
  • We are starting with a very limited schedule and will add classes based on popularity
  • Classes will run unless it’s raining

What you need to do:

  • Sign up online like you normally would
  • Bring a pair of outdoor workout shoes
  • Bring your own yoga mat
  • Bring a full water bottle

Our current covid protocols remain in place so we ask that you only enter the studio when completely necessary. Only arrive a few minutes before class start time, and kindly keep your distance before, during, and after the class.

We are SO excited to get the blood pumpin’ with you all again!

Have questions? Send us an email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we have an answer.

The B Family Day Of Giving

December 2, 2020 By Britney

As this crazy year comes to an end and the holidays fast approach, we are all faced with a multitude of different challenges. While the studio may not be allowed to run classes at this time, that doesn’t mean our B Family can’t rally together to continue to inspire and light up our community.

On Friday, December 11th, B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio is lending a hand to the Central Okanagan Food Bank to help them prepare food hampers for over 3000 local households that will need one this month. There has been a 27% increase in households that are facing food insecurities since March of this year. While we may not be able to turn this year around, we can at least help turn someone’s day around.

If you’d like to join us please email us with the time slot that you’re able to help out:

Friday, December 11th 11:00AM – 1:30PM
or
Friday, December 11th, 1:00PM – 3:30PM

If you’re unable to make it to either of these times but still want to help, you can bring some food items into the studio or you can take a below at some other ways you can help out the community through the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) this holiday season.

Words from the COFB:

This year with the holiday season fast approaching, we are all faced with different challenges. For some, it may be wondering where a healthy, warm Christmas meal may come from. For others, feeling helpless in being able to support our community. The Central Okanagan Food Bank is – as always – focused on creating a healthy, hunger free community, yet at this time we are also focused on bridging connections. Connections between those that require food assistance in our community, and those that can be of great help.

At the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB), a growing average of 3,195 households are served each month. Our service area spans Kelowna and West Kelowna, and due to the current economic climate, the number of households facing food insecurity continues to swell, rising over 27% since March of this year. The recent influx of client registrations reminds us that food insecurity can affect every type of household: people living with disabilities, low-income young adults, single parent-households, working families, and senior citizens.

The Central Okanagan Food Bank also assists many partner agencies in the community to provide food alongside their core social service delivery. Current partner agencies include the Canadian Mental Health Association, John Howard Society, Kelowna Gospel Mission, Kelowna Women’s Shelter, Salvation Army, Senior’s Outreach Society, Freedom’s Door, Boys & Girls Clubs, Metis Community Services, and Seniors Outreach Society, and 32 other local food banks.

The 21 Day Reset Challenge

October 15, 2020 By Britney

You know it. We know it. Everyone’s on the same page…
IT’S TIME FOR A RESET!

Summer was fun, weird, busy, and just plain chaotic this year. When we get taken out of our routine it’s easy to make bad decisions, unfortunately it doesn’t take long for these temporary bad decisions to become permanent bad habits. Rest assured, we are here to help you reset your life and bring those healthy habits back.

Our 21 Day Reset Challenge is exactly what you need to get back into the swing of things; someone to hold you accountable for working out every day for 21 days. That’s it. Sign up for the challenge, book in 21 spin classes, 21 strength classes or a combination of both and take back your life.

Can’t make it into the studio every day? Not a valid excuse – your registration also gives you access to our online workouts; including a 21 day home workout challenge.

The Reset Challenge is simple:
1. Sign up and receive:
– 21 classes on your account to book yourself in
– Your own board posted in the studio to hold you accountable
– Access to our online workouts
– Entry to win a free 3 month membership, supplements and free passes for your friends

2. Each day join us in the studio to get your sweat on, and stay motivated OR log into the website and complete the workout of the day (all workouts will remain on the site, so you can redo your favourites, or play catch up if you get busy!)

3. Check off your workout on your accountability tracker (if there’s not a sticker, did it even happen?)

4. Repeat for 21 days.

The cost of the challenge is $121 to join us in the studio, or $37 if you only want online access and you can sign up here.

If you are a B member who has left their membership running to help support B throughout the last few months, your sign-up fee is waived; simply send us an email letting us know you’d like to participate and we will send you the password and challenge details. We appreciate your support <3

Let’s hit RESET, together.

SIGN UP BEFORE NOVEMBER 2nd!

Spin Bike Set Up 101

May 26, 2020 By Britney

We’ll admit, spin bikes aren’t the MOST comfortable things in the world to sit on…especially when you’re just starting out or getting back into the spin life.  However, a proper bike set-up will make the experience a little more enjoyable! With the increased awareness of health and safety in mind, we are encouraging all B riders to read through the bike set-up details below to gain a proper understanding of  how to set up your bike. This allows our staff to keep a safe distance from you, as well as reducing any additional contact on the bike.

Step One: Find Your Bike

In order to continue spin classes, we have had to move our spin bikes around to allow proper social distancing. Take a look at the bottom right corner of the bike to see the bike number, and if you don’t remember which bike number you’ve booked simply ask our front desk staff and they will remind you.

 Step Two: Where to Start

Adjust the seat, then the handlebars.

Step Three: Hip Don’t Lie

As a starting point, the seat should be about hip height. Stand right next to the saddle and place your hand on your high hip bone and then lift your knee closest to the bike up to hip height to get an idea of what height the saddle should be. Take a look at the height number so you can set up more easily next time.

  1. Take A Seat

Clip your shoes in by aligning the cleat to the clip and press through until you hear a ‘click’.  Next, pedal through so you are in the bottom of the pedal stroke – You want a relatively full extension of the leg with a slight, soft bend at the knee. If you hyper-extend the knee  or feel as though you are reaching for the pedals, you need to lower the seat. If the knee is too bent and you are not getting a full extension, you will need to lift the seat higher.

  1. Find Your Power Position

The saddle slides back and forth and you will select its proper position by looking at the angle of your knees and where they fall over the pedals. You want your knees to be over the ball of your foot. Start with the saddle in a neutral position (a good starting point is placing your elbow to the end of the saddle and allowing your fingertips to just touch the handlebars).  Then, get your body into riding position (hips back, neutral –  not rounded or hyper-extended) and bring one pedal directly in front of the other so that the cranks of the bike are even with each other.

With your feet parallel check to see where the knee is sitting in relation to your foot. If the knee goes too far forward over the toes, slide the seat back. If the knee falls over or behind the ankle, slide forward.

  1. Raise The Bar

Handlebar height is more of a rider preference. An avid outdoor cyclist may prefer the handlebars quite low, while indoor riders are often more comfortable with the handlebars at seat height or higher. If you have back issues, it’s recommended that the handlebars be up a little higher. Our Johnny G Spin bikes are designed to feel like a road bike, so the handlebar height doesn’t go extremely high. Again, take a look at the number when raising the handlebars, it will say ‘max’ when they cannot be raised anymore.

  1. Final Check Before Go Time

Make sure all the knobs are tightened and your seat and handlebars aren’t loose or wobbly at all. Take note that the handlebars also slide back and forth – If you feel like you need a slight adjustment,  start at a neutral position and see if you can comfortably grip handlebars without reaching for them while keeping shoulders drawn back away from the ears and maintaining a soft bend at elbows. Always have a light grip on the handlebars and let the legs bear the body weight. Check that your knees don’t hit or come uncomfortably close to the handlebars as well, check your positioning for both seated and standing positions.

  1. We’re Here To Help

While we work to maintain proper social distancing, our staff is still available to come and help you get set up. If you are uncomfortable with bike adjustments from staff, we can guide you from a safe distance to ensure you get the proper bike set up.

See you soon, Kelowna!

Your Favourite Kelowna Spin Studio Celebrates Their First Year!

January 7, 2020 By Britney

We’re turning one and we could not think of a better way to celebrate than throwing a party with all of our favourite people.

Get ready to sweat, eat, drink, and laugh with the B Family. We’ll have snacks, games, contests and free classes all day.

Make sure you come take advantage of the amazing special offers that will only be available in studio!

We take our birthday seriously, so here’s the schedule:

Saturday, January 11th, 2020

7:30AM –  Doors Open

8:30AM – Classic Spin
Love the ride, but not all the hype? This classic spin focuses more on technique, drills and getting you moving, while providing a little bit more recovery time. It’s brighter, it’s (a little bit) quieter, but it’s still one heck of a ride.

10:00AM – RIDE + Core
Get your daily H.I.I.T. that’ll make you feel better than a lunch time cocktail. This power packed class is 30 minutes of a rhythm based spin class, followed by 15 minutes of a straight up, washboard ab-making core session.

10:45AM – 12:00PM – Mimosa Mingler
Not a class, just a good time. Hang out and have a post-spin mimosa while you get to know the B Family.

3:30PM – Doors Open for Round Two
Come in and get your hair braided before spin by the girls from Total E’clips!

4:15PM – Beyonce VS Rihanna
This isn’t your average “spin class.” We ride to the beat of music, we pump, we dip, we turn down the lights, and you experience 45 minutes of high intensity bliss, followed by a rush of endorphins that will take you through the day.

5:00PM – 7:00PM – Happy Hour
Again, not a class – just come join us for some laughs and sangria!

All classes are free, so reserve your spot today! If you can’t make a class but still want to come, please let us know!

B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio announced today that they are the only studio in Canada to house the industry leading indoor cycling bikes created by Johnny G himself.

“I’ve been teaching in the industry for over 20 years, and I have never ridden a bike as smooth, and responsive as the Johnny G Spirit Bike that we have at B” states the manager of Lower Missions B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio, Cindy Klann. “ from the electronic shifting to the digital display of watts, rpm’s and gear, you really feel like you’re on a quality road bike” she adds.
