Free Spin Classes Anyone? The B Kind Karma Team Is Expanding!

Do you light up the room when you walk in? Do you live and breathe fitness? Are you hoping to get more involved in the fitness community while getting fit yourself? Or, are you just stuck at an office job and want to let your inner fitness spirit shine? Well, we have the perfect gig for you. Our B Kind Karma volunteer team is expanding, and for just one shift a week, you will receive free spin and strength classes anytime you want (including the shift you work!). In return, we receive your help running the studio smoothly with day to day tasks including; laundry, cleaning (floors, washrooms, windows, bikes, etc), checking in members and making sure everything runs smoothly before, after, and during classes. We have a great team of B Kind Karma volunteers already, but we are looking for help for the following shifts:

Tuesdays – 8:45AM – 10:45AM
Thursdays – 4:30PM – 8:30PM
Fridays – 6:00AM – 10:00AM
Sundays – 9:00AM – 10:45AM

Takin’ Classes Outside

We hear you, pushing yourself at home with online workouts isn’t the same as the real deal, in fact it’s not even close! We just couldn’t wait any longer for indoor group fitness to start back up again so we’re excited to launch our outdoor group fitness classes.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Classes will be held right outside B on the patio
  • We will be offering full body classes. The decision will be yours to take on the cardio components to make it a bootcamp or stick with straight strength exercises
  • We are starting with a very limited schedule and will add classes based on popularity
  • Classes will run unless it’s raining

What you need to do:

  • Sign up online like you normally would
  • Bring a pair of outdoor workout shoes
  • Bring your own yoga mat
  • Bring a full water bottle

Our current covid protocols remain in place so we ask that you only enter the studio when completely necessary. Only arrive a few minutes before class start time, and kindly keep your distance before, during, and after the class.

We are SO excited to get the blood pumpin’ with you all again!

Looking For a New Gym in Kelowna?

There has been a LOT of changes in the world lately. Some businesses have closed and others have been forced to adapt in order to stay open. While the impact of these changes is astronomical, today we’re just looking at how this effects your workout routine! We’ve talked to a lot of people in Kelowna that are looking to get back into fitness after the quarantine and they aren’t sure what to do.

Many larger gyms have been forced to set up a booking schedule in order to safely monitor the number of people and to allow adequate cleaning time to make sure the facility stays safe. Now, we hear you gym goers – one of the main reasons you go to the gym instead of classes is that you can go whenever you want, and stay however long you want. With this no longer the case, we think it’s time you gave us a try and joined us for a spin class or bootcamp! 

There are so many benefits to attending group fitness classes! We understand they aren’t for everyone, that was us at one time too…”I can get a better workout on my own” was our own mentality at one point, but once you see the results from our quick and effective workouts, it may just change your mind!

So why should you try one of our classes?

  1. Variety
    How often do you wander around the gym doing the same exercises because that’s what your comfortable with? Or skip cardio because you don’t feel like it? Take a class with us and learn some new moves, you can even take these new exercises with you the next time you go back to the gym 😉
  2. Direction
    There is something magic about having a trainer explain each exercise. Small tweaks and adjustments can make the world of difference when it comes to results and injury prevention.

  3. Efficiency
    In and out in under an hour – ah-mazing. When it comes to spin, 45 minutes is more than enough, this isn’t a causal road ride…we’ll push you past your limits and make sure you get the most of the 45 minute ride. What about strength class? We super-set everything with minimal rest time – let’s get it all in.

  4. Community & Accountability
    As you continue to come to our boutique studio, you will get to know the members and become a part of our B family. Together, we inspire each other to be the best we can be.

  5. Motivation
    You will always have an instructor explaining what to do, reminding you to keep going and encouraging you to push past your limits. We are here to support you and help you reach your goals.

Local Kelowna Spin Studio Opens Its Doors After Covid Closure

Following two and a half months of mandated closure, our studio safely re-opens  

Kelowna, BC (June 2, 2020)- Yesterday, Britney B, the entrepreneur behind B Indoor Cycle & Strength Studio in the lower mission, announced that the locally owned spin and strength studio will be re-opening their doors after two and a half months of closure due to covid-19.  

“We have been fortunate enough to be able to re-open our doors following such a long closure,” explains Britney. “As a young independently owned business, we definitely took a huge hit during the closure. We offered online classes, and virtual personal training throughout the quarantine but are grateful that the circumstances have allowed us to re-open, even at a reduced capacity.”

“We have carefully gone through and applied all of the government regulations and Interior Health recommendations to allow us to safely bring our members back in for both spin classes, as well as strength classes” Britney adds.

The studio runs their spin classes with 15 bikes spaced 6ft apart, as well as strength classes and bootcamps with 6 people each at their own station. Additionally, the studio has recently added semi-private training sessions in which a member can join two additional people for a three person personal training session, allowing additional spacing for those who are not yet comfortable with the class style.

Our Covid Protocols & Procedures

Weird times, are we right?

With the COVID pandemic having taken over and shut down the world there is one thing we can all agree on, things aren’t going to be the same moving forward for a while. We are fortunate to have lower numbers in Kelowna, and at B we plan to do everything we can to keep it that way. With careful consideration and hours of work incorporating feedback from doctors, WHO, and the Ministry of Health, we have established a safe set of protocols to allow us to safely and confidently reopen our doors.

These protocols will continue to evolve as we learn more, and we are committed to staying on top of all newly released information. At this point in time, our new protocols in place are:

  1. Only those with a local Kelowna address will be admitted into the studio. We are not accepting any out of town visitors unless they have been in Kelowna for at least two weeks. 
  2. Class sizes are reduced, allowing safe social distancing and members to remain at least 8ft apart at all times. Please follow all markers, and do not move bikes or equipment stations. 
  3. You will be required to wear a mask at all times while you are in the studio. 
  4. Sanitation stations are set up throughout the studio. We request that immediately upon entering the studio, you remove your shoes and apply the hand sanitizer located on the front shelf as outlined by the studio signage.
  5. Please do not come into the studio if you are experiencing any symptoms of covid19 including; coughing, fever, sore throat or difficulty breathing or if you have been around someone experiencing these symptoms. We need to work together to keep everyone safe.
  6. If you have experienced any Covid symptoms, we ask that you remove yourself from classes for two weeks, or until you receive a negative Covid test. 
  7. Please do not arrive any sooner than5 minutes before class and please leave immediately after class is done. We will cue exits from class based on rows to avoid front entrance congestion.
  8. There will be at least 30 minutes between classes to allow staff adequate time to thoroughly disinfectant the facility with government approved cleaning disinfectants. 
  9. There are five hand washing stations located throughout the studio, which allows ample space for you each to wash your hands while maintaining proper social distancing.
  10. If we have your shoe size on file, your shoes will be waiting for you on your bike, simply check in with the front desk staff from 2m away and walk into the studio – please email us your shoe size if you don’t think it’s on file. Feel free to bring your own spin shoes as our pedals are SPD compatible. 
  11. If you are more comfortable bringing in your own face towel, you are welcome to do so.
  12. Floor markers are in place in the strength room to ensure individual stations are set up at a safe social distance.
  13. No equipment will be shared in strength classes. Each member will create a station at the start of class and only use their equipment, after which it will all be sanitized by the staff. When possible, we will use the outdoor space to expand our strength room.
  14. Showers will not be available for use at this time and we encourage limited change room use
  15. We encourage members to come ready for class and bring in as few items as possible, limiting locker and cubby use.
  16. Water bottle fill stations will remain open, however we encourage you to come with a full bottle to limit potential congestion at fill stations.
  17. Please purchase your passes online ahead of time to limit contact.
  18. We encourage extra smiles, but ask that hugs, water bottle cheers and high-fives be put on hold for the time being.

We understand this is a lot, but if this is what we need to do to keep our spin and strength classes,  let’s just do it! We need the support and cooperation from each of you now, more than ever to allow us to continue running our amazing classes and keeping our strong community vibe.

The 21 Day Comeback Challenge

It’s Time To Step Things Up a Notch!

We’ve taken time off, we’ve rested, we’ve cooked, we’ve cleaned, we’ve de-cluttered (and de-cluttered again) and now we are READY to get back into shape. It can be so hard to stay motivated with your fitness goals when you’re stuck at home, and it’s also very easy to get lazy and to forget what it feels like to be fit, energetic and strong…remember what that felt like?

Our 21 Day Comeback Challenge is exactly what you need to back into the swing of things. We are hopeful to get the go-ahead for a partial re-open June 1, and have designed this challenge to prepare you to hit the ground running when you get back into B, or back to your normal fitness routine. Regardless of your current fitness level (or lack of), your time frame (some workouts are only 21 minutes) or your actual self motivation, this challenge is the perfect workout program for everyone!

The Comeback Challenge is simple:
1. Sign up and receive:
– a password to log into the challenge website
– the file to print your own “accountability board”
– a template to share your progress on social media

2. Each day, log into the website and complete the workout of the day (all workouts will remain on the site, so you can redo your favourites, or play catch up if you get busy!)

3. Check off your workout on your accountability tracker

4. Repeat for 21 days

The challenge is designed to start whenever you want…so, you didn’t “miss it” and it’s not “too late.” Now is the perfect time to get started!

Introducing, B Fit Virtual Personal Training!

Having trouble staying motivated at home? Lack the discipline to schedule in your own home workouts? Or maybe you just find you’re not seeing the same results that you’re used to. We understand, after all, that’s probably why you were coming to classes in the first place!

B is thrilled to announce our newest #StayHome initiative – B Fit Virtual Trainer. This program will set you up with a personal trainer/accountability coach, that will video in to keep your workouts on track through whichever video platform you’re most comfortable with; Facetime, Skype, Zoom, Hangouts, etc. Through these video chats, we will walk you through your workouts, correct your form, provide guidance and motivation and make sure you’re truly getting the most out of your home workout!

It’s simple, it’s fun, and it’s everything you need right now:

  • Live one on one video training
  • You choose the training days/times
  • Let the trainer keep an eye on your form, correct mistakes and motivate you
  • Enjoy regular text/call check-in’s with your trainer to make sure you’re staying on the right track

COVID- 19 Update

B Family,  

It is with sad, but full hearts, and tremendous hope for the future that I write to announce we will be temporarily closing our doors effective immediately.

As the COVID-19 situation has evolved, so has our response. While we aimed to provide you with a health sanctuary for your fitness as long as we felt it was safe, recent updates provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) now state that further action needs to be taken to help minimize the impact of COVID-19. With this updated information, we no longer feel that it is safe for you, or our community to keep our classes running.

Throughout this process, we have been clear that our goal was always to provide a safe space for you. We tried to stay open as long as we could to offer our team and our community a place of stability in a scary, and ever-changing world. We are a small business built on the foundation of incredible people, and we stand by our decisions and are grateful that we were able to provide you with a safe sanctuary for as long as we did. 

As such, I feel it is important to recognize our amazing team, and all of our members, our B family, that came together to keep B a safe space, a home away from home, during this chaos. The B staff who showed up to follow through on our ongoing commitment and promise to you of offering exceptional classes, and an ever-loving inclusive community, who worked tirelessly through it all while keeping spirits high and smiles bright to create lasting memories of happiness and togetherness. For this, I can’t thank you all enough. You are all loved so much and such a big part of what makes B,B.

 

As of today, all classes in studio will be suspended temporarily, until we receive further information indicating it is once again safe to operate. More information on our online workout classes can be found below. In the meantime:

  • Those on auto-renewing memberships will have the option to pause their account by simply responding to this email and changing the subject to “Please Pause.” However, as a young, new business, we kindly ask that if you are in a financial position to keep your membership running you do so – we will be forever grateful for you lightening the burden this has placed on us. You can change your mind at any time should your own circumstances change.
  • All punch passes will have an extended expiration date.
  • All those on introductory offers will have their terms extended.
  • We have also set no expiration on all punch passes purchased during this time, so anything purchased during this time can be used at a later date at B.
  • We are still offering discounted personal training sessions at this time.
  • We will be offering free, private workout sessions for all Interior Health staff supporting this pandemic on the front line.

We strongly believe in movement and while we can’t move collectively as one right now, we’ll be sharing home workout videos that you can do from home to keep you active and moving while this runs its course. For the time being, we are running this private collection of workout videos for our B Family, on our Facebook page – simply request to join the “B Fit – Home Edition” group for unlimited access to these classes. This is an ever-evolving platform, so check back regularly for changes and new classes. It’s going to be fun 😉

This remains a complex and rapidly changing situation that reminds us that we are all part of a broader community with a responsibility to look out for each other. We encourage you to try and stay calm, kind, and positive in these times of uncertainty. As we say in our classes, we are all in this together, you are not alone.

Love the ride, but not all the hype? This classic spin focuses more on technique, drills and getting you moving, while providing a little bit more recovery time. It’s brighter, it’s (a little bit) quieter, but it’s still one heck of a ride.

10:00AM – RIDE + Core
Get your daily H.I.I.T. that’ll make you feel better than a lunch time cocktail. This power packed class is 30 minutes of a rhythm based spin class, followed by 15 minutes of a straight up, washboard ab-making core session.

10:45AM – 12:00PM – Mimosa Mingler
Not a class, just a good time. Hang out and have a post-spin mimosa while you get to know the B Family. 

3:30PM – Doors Open for Round Two
Come in and get your hair braided before spin by the girls from Total E’clips!

4:15PM – Beyonce VS Rihanna
This isn’t your average “spin class.” We ride to the beat of music, we pump, we dip, we turn down the lights, and you experience 45 minutes of high intensity bliss, followed by a rush of endorphins that will take you through the day.

5:00PM – 7:00PM – Happy Hour 
Again, not a class – just come join us for some laughs and sangria!
